Venture Inside

  • Through this blog, I hope to provide a view into the day of a VC and possibly provide a little help for emerging companies along the way...

About Me

I joined Battery Ventures in 1999. During my first few years at Battery, I invested in a number of emerging companies in the communications and software sectors: EnvoyWorldWide (merged with Par3), Kashya (acquired by EMC), Looking Glass Networks and Cbeyond Communications (ticker: CBEY).

I took a brief hiatus in 2002 to pursue an MBA from Stanford University where I had the chance to dip my toes into the waters of Silicon Valley, attempt to solve Google billboards on the way to San Francisco, and meet wonderful, talented and inspiring lifelong friends.

After graduating, I rejoined Battery in 2004, where I have been actively investing in digital media, consumer internet, software as a service, and wireless. I currently sit on the board of Blue Flame Data and was recently a board member at TheLoanPage, acquired by House Values (Ticker: SOLD). I am also actively involved with Spot Runner and The NewsMarket.

Prior to Battery, I spent time in Morgan Stanley’s private equity group and at Microsoft where I was involved in several projects to evaluate product strategies in the healthcare, mobile and gaming markets.

I hold an AB in political science from Princeton University.

In my spare time, I love to hike, bike and ski. I have a passion for politics, yoga (particularly "the crow"), wit appreciation, occasionally speaking one’s mind with reckless abandon and ordering Lattes in 10 words or less.

Some of my favorite books: Incredible Lightness of Being, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, The World According to Garp, Turn of the Screw, Sophie's Choice.

Some of my favorite movies: Dangerous Liaisons, Wings of a Dove, Top Gun, As Good as it Gets, Chinatown, Syriana.

Someplace I would like to spend more time: In one place, Namibia, Bhutan.

Someone/THE one who keeps me sane, happy and well-loved: My wonderful fiancé Jake.
